ONCE UPON A WORLD CHILDREN’S BOOK AWARD

Established and endowed by Sonia and Lloyd Levitin in 1995, the Children’s Once Upon A World Book Award is administered by the Simon Wiesenthal Center and Museum of Tolerance by Adaire Klein, director of library and archival services.

Books Can Make A Difference…
From The Diary of Anne Frank, To Kill A Mocking Bird, Roots and Schindler’s List, to the writings of Gandhi and Martin Luther King, the world of literature has produced many outstanding examples of fiction and non-fiction that speak to us in the most profound and effecting of ways about the themes of social injustice and man’s inhumanity to man.

Award Mission: To support and perpetuate the values and mandate of the Simon Wiesenthal Center and the Museum of Tolerance by honoring children’s books, aimed at young readers (ages 6-10) and young adults (ages 11+), which deal with issues of tolerance, diversity, human understanding and social justice, thus inspiring readers to promote positive change in the world.
